How To Recognize a Claim

A claim may be one of the following:

  • A verbal or written demand that fees be waived or reduced because of a quality of care issue or a treatment outcome.

  • Notification from another health care provider that a patient under your care is suing them.

  • Request for medical records by an attorney on behalf of a patient, or a call or visit from an attorney who is "just looking for information."

  • A written or verbal complaint about the quality of care or a treatment outcome.

  • A written demand for compensation or a notice of intent to sue.

  • The formal service of a summons and complaint
