If you're interested in a nursing career

Sneak-a-Peek job shadowing
Nurses of tomorrow can take a first-hand look at a day in the life of a nurse by shadowing a Clarian Health RN as part of the Sneak-a-Peek program. People 18 or older who are interested in a nursing career may sign up to Sneak-a-Peek by calling 317-962-2843 or by completing a pre-registration form.

The four-hour job shadowing opportunity puts you on the front lines of patient care as you watch the ins and outs of an RN's workday. A one-hour post-program session offers information on nursing schools, nursing degrees, financial aid and career options, including those at Clarian Health.

Sign up for an upcoming Sneak-a-Peek session.

Nursing Explorer Post
Real-world experience is what Nursing Explorer Post participants get when they sign up to participate in a program offered by Clarian Health in collaboration with the Boy Scouts Crossroads of America Council in central Indiana.

Young adults ages 15 through 20 literally explore nursing careers during monthly sessions that they help design and plan, giving them an up-close look at hospital facilities, nursing units and the inner workings of health care. Adult volunteers from Clarian Health mentor the Explorers throughout the school year and answer questions about work life, career options and educational requirements.

While you're in nursing school

Student Nurse Extern program
To attract and retain the best and brightest nurses, Clarian Health offers Student Nurse Extern (SNE) positions. Students attending nursing school can gain valuable on-the-job experience in this program, which offers scholarships to students who commit to a designated work schedule. Employment commitments are required upon graduation. Contact a nurse recruiter for more information.

After you graduate from nursing school

OR internships
A paid six-month orientation program in the OR provides a rewarding opportunity for new nurse graduates or RNs to explore a variety of specialties. Interns get clinical experience and classroom guidance while being assigned to a preceptor for one-on-one learning. Among the OR specialties interns can explore:

  • Neurosurgery
  • Plastic surgery/reconstruction
  • Transplants
  • Pediatrics
  • Endoscopy
  • Opthalmology
  • Orthopedics
  • Cardiovascular
  • Laser
  • Trauma
  • ENT
  • Urology
  • Cardiothoracic
  • General surgery
  • Gynecology

Multi-specialty internships
A paid eight-week orientation program is designed to help new nurse graduates and RNs explore options to switch specialties. Interns get clinical experience and classroom guidance, with lecture by frequent guest speakers. Preceptors maximize one-on-one learning, while peer support groups allow participants to discuss patients, issues and challenges.

Critical care internships
A paid 12-week orientation program allows new nurse graduates to gain valuable critical care skills. Clinical experience, classroom discussion and assigned preceptors help nurse interns prepare for vital roles throughout the health system.

Contact a recruiter to learn more about internship opportunities.

Continuing education
See our Continuing Education calendar.

Nurse residency program
New graduates get personalized help to make the transition from student to professional life at Clarian Health. In collaboration with the University Health Systems consortium, Clarian offers a one-year post-baccalaureate nurse residency program to help RNs build critical thinking, leadership and communications skills. While working full-time, RN residents learn about patient safety practices and explore professional career planning. Mentors guide program participants to ensure their satisfaction and long-term success.

Career Advancement Program (CAP)
The Career Advancement Program at Clarian Health is based on elements that differentiate nursing practice, from novice to expert. Nurses who show above-average competencies as outlined in the Synergy Model for Patient Care may advance from Associate Partner to Partner and Senior Partner as skills and expertise develop.

  • All nurses who join Clarian Health start as an Associate Partner.
  • Nurses with three to five years of experience typically are ready to advance to Partner.
  • Nurses with five to eight years of experience usually are ready to become Senior Partners.

Compensation rewards are tied to each level of advancement.

On-site BSN and MSN programs
On-site education programs make it possible for nurses to pursue advanced degrees without the traditional "hassle factors" associated with going back to school.

A partnership with the University of Indianapolis School of Nursing streamlines admission and registration procedures, provides on-site instructors, reduces the tuition for Clarian participants and defers tuition payments until the end of each semester.

Convenient classes for nurses also are available at the nearby Indiana University School of Nursing, with which Clarian enjoys a rich and long-standing partnership.
